TAIGER is named in Gartner Hype Cycles for 2020
Gartner identifies TAIGER as a sample vendor in must-know Natural Language Technologies and Emerging Technologies
October, 2020—TAIGER is proud to announce its recognition as a Sample Vendor in two Gartner Hype Cycle market segments for 2020. These include Hype Cycle for Natural Language Technologies under Conversational Platforms and Hype Cycle for Emerging Technologies under Ontologies and Graphs.
What is the Gartner Hype Cycle?
The Hype Cycle is a methodology to interpret technology hype with a graphical representation of the life cycle stages of technologies. Each technology is categorized as points along a curve which are delineated as five key phases depicting a technology’s life cycle; these stages cycle from invention to maturity and through eventual mainstream usage and adoption.
- Innovation Trigger: A potential technology breakthrough kicks things off. Early proof-of-concept stories and media interest trigger significant publicity. Often no usable products exist and commercial viability is unproven.
- Peak of Inflated Expectations: Early publicity produces a number of success stories—often accompanied by scores of failures. Some companies take action; many do not.
- Trough of Disillusionment: Interest wanes as experiments and implementations fail to deliver. Producers of the technology shake out or fail. Investments continue only if the surviving providers improve their products to the satisfaction of early adopters.
- Slope of Enlightenment: More instances of how the technology can benefit the enterprise start to crystallize and become more widely understood. Second- and third-generation products appear from technology providers. More enterprises fund pilots; conservative companies remain cautious.
- Plateau of Productivity: Mainstream adoption starts to take off. Criteria for assessing provider viability are more clearly defined. The technology’s broad market applicability and relevance are clearly paying off.

Raising the bar with Conversational AI in Natural Language Technologies
TAIGER is featured in two Gartner Hype Cycle reports, the first being the Gartner Hype Cycle for Natural Language Technologies 2020 (NLT), published in July 2020. It is also Garner’s first report of this market segment, which points to TAIGER’s presence in this technology. According to the report, “Recent advances in artificial intelligence and machine learning have enabled innovative approaches and advances in the field of natural language technologies. This report will assist CIOs and other enterprise leaders in assessing how and where these new opportunities and methods can best be applied.” Analysts place TAIGER in the Conversational AI Platforms category which is making its way through the ‘Peak of Inflated Expectations’.
Behind the media buzz, the robust technology has indeed been transforming how businesses take on high value complex work that typically requires intensive human capital. Customer operations is one such work and where Conversational AI platforms are maturing in to deftly deal with volumes of human interactions. Having said, customers’ rising expectations—coupled with clients’ rising customisation requests that follow—require conversational platforms to not only be more intelligent but also easier to use and be maintained by admins. However, TAIGER’s Conversational AI technologies consider these exact expectations, with humanistic virtual assistants that inform, search, recommend and transact—enabling accelerated and personalised customer experience. Admins are granted full control to make changes to content and monitor performance, and can further scale bots to cover new business divisions. TAIGER has a wealth of experience deploying Conversational AI with such guarantees, such as for the Housing Development Board’s customer service front. The deployed chatbot tapped on knowledge from more than six topic areas with an outstanding deflection rate of 70%—a success dedicated to the NLT that powers our bots to understand human intent effectively.
Pioneering Ontologies and Graphs in Emerging Technologies
Gartner further published the Gartner Hype Cycle For Emerging Technologies, 2020 in August 2020, which was later summarized in a Gartner blog post, 5 Trends Drive the Gartner Hype Cycle for Emerging Technologies, 2020. This particular Hype Cycle distills over 1,700 unique technologies into a list of 30 leading technologies and trends. TAIGER is named under the Ontologies and Graphs category which occupies a leading position among the list of emerging technologies.
Breaking it down, ontologies and knowledge graphs are machine-readable representations of subject matters, mimicking the abstraction of ideas in a human mind. Gartner Research VP, Brian Burke locates Ontologies and Graphs in the early to middle development stages—at the ‘Trough of Disillusionment’—that can be expected to reach maturity in 2 to 5 years’ time. Yet, they have already gained prominence in recent years among big players, such as Fortune 500 companies in powering recommendation engines to drive data-linked capabilities specifically in e-commerce and investment banking operations. TAIGER has been consistently contributing to its advancements since the development of our first product, TAIGER Search—an enterprise search solution that leverages Ontologies to provide accurate search results and recommendations. Our investment and expertise in this emerging market places us in a prime position to further lead this technology into mainstream adoption in the next few years.
Businesses to trust tech that delivers
Gartner’s equitable distillation gives a farsighted analysis of what and how far technologies are relevant to address real-world challenges. For business, the reports are a critical source of insight to monitor and assess technologies for informed procurement decisions that walk in tandem with their business goals. TAIGER’s seats in two technologies reinforces us as leading vendors who are pioneering these notable technologies meaningfully; we are positioned as a cutting edge tech, not to experiment, but deliver.
Promising to live up to the hype
Both ontologies and the Natural Language Processing branch of AI are cornerstones of TAIGER’s advanced semantic information-access solutions, which TAIGER will continue advancing to empower workforces to make work light. Gartner has shown TAIGER’s Natural Language Technologies to be seeing activity beyond early adopters, and the team will constructively use prevailing elevated expectations to redefine boundaries. For Emerging Technologies, TAIGER’s leadership is only an added push to create further and improving iterations of our ontology-based solutions.
“It is remarkable to rank among the up-and-coming technologies entrusted to be making a huge impact for both business operations and the tech industry. We’re further assured that the team is moving in the right direction with Gartner’s validation of our solutions”, says Joshua Kwah, Global Head of Marketing at TAIGER.
