Leading international law firm Clifford Chance has announced that TAIGER, a Singapore-based artificial intelligence start-up, is the winner of Create+65 Innovators, the firm’s first start-up initiative in Asia Pacific.
The winner was selected by an expert panel from Clifford Chance which included Bas Boris Visser (Global Head of Innovation), Jeroen Plink (CEO of Clifford Chance Applied Solutions) and Kai-Niklas Schneider (Managing Partner, Singapore).
Kai-Niklas Schneider, Managing Partner, Singapore, said, “We continue to embrace technology and new ways of working to ensure we provide the best service for our clients. Create+65, our innovation lab, lets us work with start-ups, our clients and even other law firms, to identify and develop new solutions for the legal industry’s biggest challenges.”
TAIGER was chosen because its technology aligns with Clifford Chance’s innovation priorities which includes adopting new technologies to improve document drafting, management and analytics, as well as embracing machine learning and natural language processing to achieve efficiencies.
“We’re honoured to be the inaugural winner of Create+65 Innovators. TAIGER helps organisations automate complex cognitive tasks that require language interpretation and understanding, and we see tremendous opportunity to create operational efficiencies for Clifford Chance. The firm is known for its excellence and innovation and we look forward to working with the team to implement TAIGER’s technologies.”
Sinuhé Arroyo, CEO and founder of TAIGER.
TAIGER and Clifford Chance will embark on a 12-week collaboration phase to identify cost and resource intensive legal processes which TAIGER’s technology can help significantly reduce. TAIGER will receive support and access to the firm’s resources, including time with lawyers and clients, access to anonymised sample data and mentoring.
“The positive response to our first ever Create+65 Innovators programme shows that Singapore’s start-up community is thriving. We are excited to work with TAIGER over the coming months to explore uses of cutting-edge AI technology for the legal industry. We recognise that the biggest challenge for legaltech start-ups is often getting product feedback from lawyers, so we will invite lawyers to participate in a series of product workshops with the other Create+65 Innovators finalists.”
Laura Collins Scott, Innovation Lead for Create+65.
Supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) and developed in collaboration with the Future Law Innovation Programme (FLIP), Create+65 is Clifford Chance’s first innovation lab. It sits at the heart of the firm’s Singapore-based Innovation and Best Delivery Hub for Asia Pacific, which was launched in May 2018.
