Ask Phoebe has caught global attention as a finalist of the World Smart City Awards 2020. The World Smart City Awards is a prestigious international competition that seeks to recognise pioneering projects, ideas and strategies making cities around the world more liveable, sustainable, and economically viable. TAIGER is thrilled to have Ask Phoebe shortlisted as one of the six finalists under the Covid-19 Innovation Award category. The 2019 edition of the WSCA registered over 450 entries from 59 different countries in its seven categories and this year was no different! The category winner will be announced on 18 November during the live online gala.
During the lockdown (AKA ‘circuit breaker’) here in Singapore that lasted from 7 April till 1 June, Singaporeans were stuck at home and could only leave their homes for essential activities. Many were bored, looking for different things to do such as baking, exercising and picking up new skills. TAIGER wanted to see what we could do for the community.
This gave birth to Ask Phoebe, a humanistic chatbot that would curate interesting activities from various organisations that were social distancing-friendly so that users could be engaged in meaningful and fun activities while stuck at home. The chatbot’s launch in early May this year has since blossomed into partnerships with various businesses like Publicis Media and MullenLowe. Projects with government agencies including the Ministry of Culture, Community & Youth (MCCY) are also in the works to implement the chatbot on sgunited.gov.sg as part of plans to scale it. The success of Ask Phoebe led to a feature by The Business Times as one of ten useful innovations by Singapore firms during Covid-19.
As TAIGER continues to grow, we strongly believe in contributing back to the society which has helped us to grow.
